Chester and Barbara started their ministery at the Ranch in June of 1995. For the past 13 years they have been serving the children that call the Ranch home!

As in many agencies we employee husband and wife teams to fiil our on campus positions. Chester is our "Mr. Fixit". In a small agency the maintenance man can be a life saver. Chester is the most efficient person I have ever met! He never gets in a hurry, unless he's headed for the golf course. Chester keeps a note card in his pocket with a list of "things to do". He plans every step of his day, if he is going by the offcie and a new light bulb is needed he installs the bulb while he is passing by. Never a wasted step! He is a "jack of all trades" and a "master of most". He can maintain our vehicles, basketball goals, buildings, toys, equipment, swimming pool, build buildings, lawn mowers, shovels, rakes, hoes, bikes, and the list goes on! Barbara has served as the head of food service, "the cook", and handles our purchasing as well. She has been responsible for cooking the meals that our boys enjoy. She is charged with preparing the Thanksgiving dinner meal for the whole "family", special event meals and lunches for a Board meetings. Barbara has learned how to prepare great meals within a limited budget.

Demonstration of Professionalism in Their Position

Chester and Barbara always have time to help some one. They are very loving, caring people who truly love their jobs and the people around them. They are good stewards of the resources that we have. They are not wasteful, they are resourceful and creative in how to perform their task. Above all, they treat everyone with the absolute most respect and kindness.

Commitment to Children in Care

The kids love the "B's". All the boys refer to them as Mr. & Mrs. B. They are so willing to share with every boy. They are great teachers for the kids. Always patient and willing to take the time to help every boy. The kids love to work with the B's.

Character and Dedication

Their character is amazing! So calm and relaxed. They bring a calmness to all activities. They model their Christian faith in all that they do. Always concerned about helping others, quick to fill in where needed. Always available to do what ever needs to be done, they are true servants!

Mr. & Mrs. B always take time to visit with a child. To help them with what they are doing, listen to their stories, encourage them and offer guidance in difficult situations. They are totally committed to helping every child.

Contribution to Programs and Services

A couple like the Burkhaulter's make operating a children's home much easier! They are always willing to help with any event or situation that arises. Mr. & Mrs. Burkhaulter have served as temporary houseparents when we have needed them. They help at fund raising events, go with kids on trips, and do many other things with out being asked.

It is a blessing to have the opportunity to work with a couple that are so committed to the children we serve. Their calmness, upbeat attitude and genuine caring hearts make Ben Richey Boys Ranch a better place for the kids and the staff.
